Young Achievers Program

The Young Achievers Program is designed to facilitate excellent development of skills and knowledge with the support of a diverse curriculum, which allows for individual growth in an environment of support.

The programs philosophy: of high expectations, students centred learning and independent investigation leading to deeper knowledge and understanding has been embedded into the Young Achievers Program. Students are required to work both within groups and independently to foster the growth of their skills and knowledge. This results in a variety of different experiences such as: study days, young writers day, reading challenge and science and maths extension days and opportunities to develop leadership skills and mentoring of younger students.

The program is showcased at the annual Celebration Evening. The evening is organised by the students and they run the event and work collaboratively with staff and other students to make the event their own. In previous years all levels of the school community were impressed with not only the quality of the performances but the variety and the clear students' voice which is an important focus for the night. The content of the night represents all faculties and a diversity of activities.

The application process begins for 2015 at the 4, 5 & 6 Information Evening where the program is presented and discussed. Application packages are available on the night or individuals can collect them from the school front office. The application involves a collection of supporting documents which outline the students suitability for the program. The documents include: NAPLAN results, copy of the most recent school report, a support statement from the students current class teacher and a handwritten statement from the child outlining why they would like to be part of our Young Achievers Program.

The documents are due back to Henry Kendall High School by Wednesday 1 April, 2015.
