Henry Kendall High School has a very proud tradition in sport. In our 54 years we have had many student go onto have very distinguished careers in their chosen sports.
Our swimming carnival has been a fixture at Gosford Olympic Pool, the fourth Monday of Term 1, since we became a high school in our own right in 1970. All records are of a very high standard and amongst our record holders there are some significant names including Kirk Palmer. Kirk is an Australian Dolphins multiple medal swimming team member and Olympic bronze medallist in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay in the Athens Olympics of 2008. Paul Lemmons is a multiple Australian and World masters champion in Surf Lifesaving. Our oldest record belongs to Peter Margin for the 50m butterfly in 1973 and our latest record belongs to Sienna Inglis in the Girls15 years 50m Breaststroke in 2013.
Originally our athletics carnival was held on the school oval. To look at it today divided as it is with the new COLA and Gosford Public School, you would not think it would fit. With the opening of the world class facilities at Mingara, our athletics carnival has been held there since 2001. Again the records are of a very high standard. The most significant name on the list being Josh Ross, the four time Australian 100m champion, Olympic 100m semi-finalist and dual Stawell Gift champion in 2003 & 2005. The oldest school record is the 15 years boys 800m held by Ian Redden in 1972, amazing when you consider that the metric system was not even being taught in high schools yet. The latest records belong to Samantha Farrant in the 15 year girls shot put and Emily Gunn in the senior girls javelin.
The records contained are a close link to their high school days for many ex students, it's not uncommon for the ex students to ask if their record still stands. To those ex students checking to see if their name is still listed, we hope you can find your name. To the current and future students, train hard.
