Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

Special Religious Education (SRE) at Henry Kendall High School in 2025

NSW Public Schools offer Special Religious Education (SRE), delivered by approved providers wherever available. At Henry Kendall High School, SRE is offered fortnightly to Year 7 students whose parents choose to participate.

Combined Christian Churches is an approved provider who has sought to provide SRE at Henry Kendall High School. Christian SRE is delivered by trained and authorized teachers from various Christian denominations and churches. This combined arrangement includes providers such as:

· Newcastle Anglican (formerly Anglican Diocese of Newcastle)

· Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay

· Australian Christian Churches

· Baptist Union of NSW

· Presbyterian Church of Australia

· Uniting Church in Australia

Parents and carers of year 7 will receive an SRE participation letter by email early in 2025. Only students who return the signed permission slip will be able to participate. The sessions for Year 7 students who opt in are one hour in length on a fortnightly basis.

Students who do not participate in SRE will be required to undertake individual study in this period, as per Department of Education policy.

The curriculum used for Christian SRE is Think Faith, which is approved and authorized by all the listed providers. This curriculum focuses on the Good News of Jesus Christ, teaching key elements of Christian life and culture. Further details about the curriculum can be accessed at: https://www.iccoreis.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/ThinkFaith.pdf

Christian SRE encourages students to engage in meaningful discussions, explore values, and reflect on life’s big questions as they discover faith.
